Is Google planning to launch an airline service of its own? Most unlikely. What they really want is to include airline flight information in their search results that’s why they recently bought air fare data firm ITA Software, reports the Guardian Unlimited.
ITA Software works in the industry between airlines and travel agencies so little is known about the company publicly. However we do know that they specialize in providing behind-the-scenes data on flight times, availability and prices to travel agencies.
The move cost Google around $700 million for full ownership of the company which is a specialist aggregator of airline flight information. The buyout has sounded some competitive alarms among the airline booking industry, raising fears that Google might soon offer airline tickets to the public.
Now that Google has ownership of ITA Software, expect to see air fare ticket prices all over Google search results, Google Maps, and other services real soon.
